THE THRILL OF THE HUNT:
DISCOVERING THIS YE

by Marian Jansen op de Haar

It’s been a journey of discovery. All the Wine Managers and I have sipped and swirled our way through a world of wines. We’ve visited big, small, sweet, dry, intense, friendly, dense and delicate. And we’ve emerged with lots of interesting observations. Riesling is on the rise. Unoaked and lightly oaked Chardonnay, as well as the maligned Merlot, are having a mini-renaissance. There are more wonderful wine treasures to be found in the southern hemisphere than ever before, from Argentina, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. But there are also some spectacular finds in Europe, and, I’m happy to say, lots of knockouts right in our own backyard. And all over the world, more and more winemakers are making world-class wines using earth-friendly practices. In fact,

70% of the wines that made the list are from sustainable, organic and/or biodynamic wineries.

In assembling our list of great wines by the glass, we pare it down to the real standouts. The final 70 you’ll find profiled within will be served as part of the Flemings 100 in all our restaurants
