FLEETWOOD: on CRaFtInG WInES the great thing about being a winemaker is, I get to make wines to my taste. I like wines that are really mellow. When people drink my wines, they’ll
know that my sensibilities are very non-tannic. Some wines attack you; mine are easy to drink. I’m by no means an expert at blending…I think I just have a knack for getting to an approachable taste that people really seem to like. once I have a wine I’ve crafted that I really like, I try to test it with my friends before I commit it to my label. I’ll sometimes have the wines I’m blending
delivered in advance to a restaurant and have the waiter just bring them to the table, “compliments of the house.” that way everyone isn’t worried about saying what they really think. When lots of my friends and guests like something, I know I have a winner.
SIMMONS: on HIS MoSt MEMoRaBlE BottlE Hmm... I know I sound like I’m bragging, but I once drank a 1915 Port with Paul anka from his wonderful wine cellar. I remember it was 1915, because I have a 1915 motorcycle.
I never knew wine could be such a transcendent experience. also, of course, I remember my first glass of B.R. Cohn wine. I couldn’t believe the guy I had been working with all those years could make such a wonderful wine. We were just hippies who started a rock ’n’ roll band, and here was our manager, Bruce (who was our original crew
2006
member, sound mixer, and all-around friend and advisor), making a wine, which in my humble estimation was one of the best red wines I had ever tried. and now, through Bruce, and the B.R. Cohn family, the doobie Brothers are able to produce our doobie Red Wine, with all the proceeds benefitting charity. again, I stumbled into the enviable position of being close to a source of great wine. the great god Bacchus must be my guardian.
